First questions are often numeric: how much, how long, what rate. Second questions are qualitative: what changes in my life if this goes wrong, and can I live inside that change? The second question is where adult planning hides.

Second questions also expose hidden options: can I reduce a fixed cost instead of chasing extra return? Can I extend a timeline instead of compressing risk? Return-chasing is a habit; optionality is a craft.
